Chief Economist visits St Bede's
Described by Time magazine in 2014 as one of the 100 most influential people on the planet, we were pleased to welcome Andy Haldane, Chief Economist at the Bank of England, into school recently.
He spoke to budding economists (in Years 11, 12 and 13) on a wide range of topics, including his thoughts on the challenges facing the UK economy, problems in the banking system and why economics can be a force for good in society. He then took questions from the audience including gems such as ‘Isn’t it boring sitting in a meeting where you decide to do nothing with interest rates again?’
The talk was part of the school’s enrichment programme designed to provide as varied a range of extra curricular opportunities as possible.
