US ambassador makes a flying visit
We were pleased to welcome the US Ambassador to Great Britain, Matthew Barzun, to the school.
He came to speak to the sixth form students about his role and the relationship between the US, the UK and the rest of the world.
In an interactive debate, the topics covered included the US constitution, gun crime, the war on terror, climate change, the Ebola crisis and the situation in Syria.
Organised by Mr Purkiss, course leader in Government and Politics, the visit was part of our sixth form enrichment programme. “We were honoured to welcome Ambassador Barzun to St Bede’s,” Mr Crabtree commented. “Hearing him speak so openly about the issues that face the world today and the common history of our two countries was a real privilege. Such events can only enhance the overall educational experience we offer at our school.”
All the feedback from students was very positive. This is what a couple of them had to say:
“It was interesting to hear political views from an American perspective.” (Fran, Year 12)
“He made us feel like our views were listened to and valued.” (Hannah, Year 12)
