St Bede’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.

We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children, young people and staff at school. Any concerns are passed through to the members of staff who are trained as Designated Safeguarding Leads in school, in compliance with the sharing of information guidance.

The school's Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mr Saunders, Deputy Headteacher. He is supported by a team of other senior staff, heads of year and specific members of the support staff. The school's Safeguarding Governor is Catharine Adjei.

If you have any serious concerns about your child, or any other pupil at St Bede’s School, please do not hesitate to contact one of the safeguarding team; they will know who to contact for the best advice and help, and are experienced in using the appropriate degree of confidentiality.

A cause for concern

Teachers are asked to report any causes for concern to the school safeguarding team either in person or by using ‘CPOMS’ - an electronic recording system. Any concerns will be shared with parents as early as possible as, more often than not, there are completely reasonable explanations for the concern. Concerns may range from children being visibly upset to persistent lateness to children ‘disclosing’.

Attendance

All lateness and absences are recorded by our Attendance Officers, Mrs Lukacova (Y7-11) and Mrs White (sixth form). Reasons will be sought for all absence or lateness. Attendance is monitored through these systems and referrals to the safeguarding team can also be made. Parents will always be informed of concerns around attendance at the earliest point. If attendance concerns continue, the school will refer to the local Inclusion Officer.

Outside school hours

It is important to note it is unlikely that emails will be read outside of the school’s working hours (8.30am - 4.30pm, Monday - Friday term time), however, you should receive a response within 48 hours during term time.
