Key Stage 4 (Years 10, 11)

Cambridge National - Health and Social Care Level 1/2

This course is examined through three units. One exam and two portfolios of centre assessed tasks taken in years 10 and 11.

At the end of the two years you will have a Cambridge National Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care. This is equivalent to one GCSE and counts towards your progress 8 score.

Unit R032  Principles of care in health and social care settings

Written exam - 1 hour 15 mins (taken at the end of year 11) 70 marks. (Worth 40% of the whole course.) OCR-set and marked Calculators are not required in this exam.

Unit R033 Supporting individuals through life events 

Centre assessed tasks, OCR moderated. 60 marks. (Worth 30%)
Approximately 10 - 12 hours assignment time (completed in Year 10 or Year 11) 

Unit R035 R035: Health promotion campaigns

Centre assessed tasks, OCR moderated. 60 marks. (Worth 30%)
Approximately 10 - 12 hours assignment time. (Completed in Year 10 or Year 11)

Health and Social Care Cambridge Advance National

The OCR Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification Cambridge Advanced National in Health and Social Care (Extended Certificate) is for students aged 16-19 years old.

It will develop knowledge, understanding and skills that will help prepare you for progression to undergraduate study and are relevant to the health and social sector.

Alternative Academic Qualification Cambridge Advanced National in Health and Social Care also provides students with theoretical  knowledge and hands-on experience of health and social care, equipping them with the understanding and skills that will help prepare  them for progression to undergraduate study and are relevant to the health and social care sector.

You might be interested in this qualification if you want to apply what you learn to practical, real-life contexts, such as:  

  • Using a person-centred approach to recommend care and support.
  • Recommending support for individuals.  
  • Creating and presenting advice and guidance.  
  • Creating and presenting an outline proposal to address a public  health challenge. 

OCR Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification Cambridge Advanced National in Health and Social Care (Extended Certificate consists of six units taken over two years). 

The Extended Certificate qualification is equivalent to an A level. Students will take this alongside A level/CTEC courses as part of their programme of study at Key Stage 5 to help them build broader knowledge and skills that are valued in undergraduate study and are relevant for progression to higher education.
